Koh Ra Island is located in Phang Nga Province in Southern Thailand and is one of the last true island gems in South Thailand. Kho Rah Island is a large and remote island with rainforest covered mountains that has no development so far.
Koh Ra Island features different marine and terrestrial habitats, waiting to be explored. These habitats include lowland tropical rain forest, beach fringe forest, freshwater streams and marshes, coral and rocky reefs, mangroves and sea grass beds. Because of its high intact rainforest coverage, Koh Ra Island is abound with mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds, including several species of rare hornbills, hawks and eagles. Wild deer, pigs, pangolin, otters and leopard cats roam the inner areas of Koh Raa Island.

Koh Ra Ecolodge is located in Thailand's Andaman Sea. Koh Rah Ecolodge offers a unique nature experience in South Thailand with pristine jungle, a private beach, coral reefs and hidden bays on the amazing Koh Rah Island. At Koh Raa Nature Beach Resort, we offer guests a simple yet comfortable place to stay in the heart of the most natural stretch of coast line remaining in Thailand, and close to the famous Mu Koh Surin Marine National Park. We strive to do this in a way that protects the local environment and provides benefits to the local communities, which depend on the natural resources of the island.
We offer a variety of affordable ecotour activities including diving, hiking, sea kayaking, Thai cooking and more, with simple yet comfortable bungalows from which to base yourselves. Koh Ra Ecolodge on Kho Raa Island is also home to an active ecological research programme in collaboration with local non-profit groups, which offers volunteers a chance to participate in environmental and community projects.

Koh Ra Nature Lodge has 18 bungalow-style rooms, which are constructed from natural materials and produce a simple and comfortable space for guests to enjoy the tranquility of Koh Ra Island. Each room has either a large Queen size bed or two single beds with clean linens, a private bath with western toilet and shower and a large covered patio, which is shared for each house of 2 or 3 rooms. We also have several suite rooms for families or those requiring more space, they consist of a bedroom and adjoining sitting room and extra mattresses may be added for families with children. A common building houses the restaurant and is tucked away under the jungle canopy on a private bay.

Koh Ra Nature Beach Resort facilities include bungalow accommodation for guests, research staff, and volunteers, a restaurant and a large beach-side sala, office space and a complete dive center with dive gear and compressor. All this is set on a private beach with the Kho Ra Ecolodge nestled in the pristine jungle of Koh Rah Island.
The facilities at Koh Ra Eco Lodge are run as an example of an ecologically sound way to use land in this fragile coastal habitat. Natural building materials, like bamboo and casuarina, were obtained locally, lacquer was used instead of toxic paints and large canopy jungle trees were left intact to provide food and habitat for the many bird species in the area, cooling is provided by ample shade, well ventilated building design and the regular sea breeze, not by air conditioners.

The core principle of ecologically sound tourism is to explore and protect the local ecology and culture. In addition to the sustainable design and operation of the Koh Ra Ecolodge, and our various marine ecological projects we work with several local communities helping them to move towards more sustainable resource use. Koh Ra Ecolodge runs on the tenets of conservation, sustainability, and reduce-reuse-recycle. We separate waste, recycle and compost on site.
You can join us at Koh Ra Ecolodge on Kho Ra Island for a research expedition, long term volunteer project or just to relax in this unique natural location. Visiting researchers are welcome to use the facilities on Koh Rah Island for research projects in the local area. Koh Ra Nature Beach Resort can accommodate and feed up to 40 people. With advance reservation, boats, diving equipment and guides can be arranged for groups as well.
